What First-Time Cruisers Need to Know About Embarkation Day

Embarkation day also known as boarding day can feel a bit chaotic, especially for first-time cruisers.

There are people everywhere, long lines, luggage being rolled in all directions, and a buzz of excitement and nerves in the air. But with a little preparation, this day can go from overwhelming to totally manageable.

Here’s what you need to know about embarkation day on your Royal Caribbean cruise:

First, review all your travel documents in advance. Make sure your SetSail pass, passport or ID, and health forms (if applicable) are printed and ready. Have them easily accessible not packed in your luggage to move smoothly through check-in.

Arrive at the port with plenty of time. Don’t cut it close; traffic, long lines, or delays can quickly turn stressful. Aim to arrive within your designated check-in window, and allow extra time for parking, security, and check-in procedures.

Once you arrive at the port, make sure your Royal Caribbean luggage tags are securely attached to each checked bag before handing them to the porters, this ensures your luggage gets delivered to the correct stateroom. After that, keep a carry-on bag with you that includes anything you’ll need for the first few hours onboard: medications, travel documents, swimsuits, sunscreen, a phone charger, or even a change of clothes. It may take several hours for your luggage to be delivered to your room, so pack your carry-on wisely.

And most importantly don’t let embarkation day define your cruise. It might feel rushed, but trust me, things will settle down once you're onboard and exploring. As the days go by, the ship becomes your home away from home.
